Bolton Road

Bolton Road runs east from Baker Street across Mallard Street and Beech Street to the corner of Eliot Street and Cottage Street in the Nutting Lake section. It first appears on "Nuttings Lake Park Extension, Plan E," drawn in May 1915 by C. A. Thayer, engineer, of Providence, Rhode Island, and recorded April 14, 1916 (Plan Book 33, Plan 46), which shows Bolton Road running west from Eliot Street across Beach Street, and Plan G of December 1916 (Plan Book 35, Plan 76) carried it on west across Main Street (now Mallard Street) to Baker Street. No record explains the name.

The town accepted Bolton Road a piece at a time. The annual meeting of 1952 voted to accept "the laying out of Bolton Road from Elliott Street about 312 feet toward Beach Street." In 1953 an article to accept it "from Elliot Street toward Beach Street about 300 feet" and spend $300 on it was carried after a motion to dismiss was lost, and the town's list of accepted streets records both votes.

Bolton Road was repaired in 1953 and resurfaced with Beach Street in 1957. A fall 2001 article to accept "Bolton Rd Baker St. to Beach St," 614 feet, was dismissed, but a special town meeting in June 2002 accepted "Bolton Road from Beech Street to Mallard Street," 265 feet. The street was repaved in fiscal 2003. It is not one of the roads of the 1831 map accepted in 2016.
